Is Shuri Castle actually open if the main hall burned down?
Yes. The main hall burned in October 2019 and is under reconstruction (estimated completion in the future). But the grounds, gates, outer walls and surrounding sacred sites are open and very walkable. The tour covers the history of what stood there and the broader Ryukyu kingdom.
What’s Tamaudun?
The royal mausoleum — the burial site of Ryukyu kings. It’s a sacred and historically significant site, and seeing it gives you a sense of the kingdom’s depth and power. Your guide explains the significance and the WWII history connected to it.
How much walking is involved?
It’s a 3–4 hour walking tour covering several sites across Naha. You should be able to walk comfortably for a few hours at a steady pace. Not extreme hiking, but not a stroll either. Wear good shoes.
