Is Okinawa expensive or cheap?

On tour pricing, Okinawa is reasonable. At $49 to $68 per person, these tours are more affordable than comparable snorkeling or cultural tours in Hawaii, Thailand or the Mediterranean. The real cost is airfare: flights from North America or Europe tend to run $400 to $1,000, depending on season.

Cheapest month to fly

Airfare to Okinawa (Naha Airport, code OKA) is typically cheapest in January, just after New Year holidays end. Spring (March–May) is moderate; summer (June–August) is expensive and typhoon-prone. Avoid Golden Week (early May), Obon (mid-August), and the Christmas rush. Winter months (November–February) also tend to be cheaper than spring or summer, though February is cooler for swimming (Mar–Oct is the swim season).

How to save on an Okinawa trip

• Book tours a few days ahead. Popular tours (Kerama, Blue Cave) book out during peak season; booking 1 to 2 weeks in advance locks in your date with free cancellation.
• Choose multi-day package rates if available. A few operators offer discounts for back-to-back bookings; ask GetYourGuide when browsing.
• Visit in shoulder season (April, May, September, October). Tour prices are the same, but flights are cheaper and tours are less crowded.
